Director of Community Education

DeWitt Public Schools

Dear KIDS Program Parents:

I hope this finds your families healthy and safe. I have enjoyed receiving the positive feedback from you regarding our KIDS staff and their continued connection with our students. Staff has developed and implemented strategies online to keep in contact with students, letting them know they are in our hearts when they can’t be with us physically.

In a continued effort to keep our students safe, the Summer KIDS Program will not be open for the month of June. By the end of June we will revisit the issue for a possible opening after the 4th of July. We are awaiting further instruction from the state and if we are able to reopen it will look a bit different. Social distancing and limiting group size will apply, which will limit the number of students that will be registered. Your students’ safety is our priority and while this may be an inconvenience to some, we know safety is your priority, as well.

During this period of social restriction, registration for the Summer KIDS Program will likely be done via a lottery. Essential workers and those that have to physically return to the workforce will have their students placed in this lottery. If space permits, a second lottery will be conducted for all remaining students. If the Summer KIDS Program opens in July, an email will be sent to all parents via Infinite Campus asking if you are in need of the Summer KIDS Program. The email will also contain registration instructions. This information will also be posted on the Fuerstenau Early Childhood Center FB page and on the District website. If you have already registered and paid the activity fee for the Summer KIDS Program you will have the option to receive a refund in the coming weeks (more information to follow). While we know these are not ideal conditions for registration, we are making the process fair for all parents that must return to the workforce while keeping the safety of your students first.

Thank you for your understanding and patience in these unprecedented times. We have never experienced a daily change of this magnitude, but I am proud to say that DeWitt and DPS have risen to the challenge, and am grateful to belong to such a supportive community.

Thank you,

Michelle Wilcox
