NEW!! Kindergarten and Young 5 Enrollment for 2017-18

If you have a child who will be 5-years-of-age by September 1, 2017*, and is a resident of DeWitt, it’s time to enroll them for the 2017-18 school year! Here are important dates for you:

If your child currently attend a daycare or preschool program outside of the DeWitt area, you are welcome to ask your current teacher to complete this Transition Form to assist with classroom placements next year. 

February 13-March 30:  District-wide Young 5 & Kindergarten enrollment 

All enrollment documents can be printed from the front page of the district website under - Enroll Your Child or using this link:  Y5/K Enrollment packets   Young 5 Parent Request Form

Packets are also available for pickup if needed.  Packets will be available at both the FECC office and the Administration Office (south end of the Jr. High).  

Please complete ALL forms and return them to the DPS Administration Offices (south end of the Jr. High) Mon-Fri. 8am-4:30pm before March 30, 2017.  

Current Young 5 families do not need to pre-register or re-enroll your child.  We will move their records to FECC at the end of the school year.

  • When you turn in your paperwork, please schedule a Hearing/Vision Screening appointment if needed.
  • If you are interested in Young 5, be sure to complete the Young 5 Parent Request Form
  • Required Enrollment paperwork (in addition to the enrollment forms):
    • Original certified birth certificate (no copies will be accepted) - we can run a copy and return the original to you.
    • Immunization Record (schedule your appointment now for needed shots)
    • 2 pieces of proof of residency (driver’s license, utility bill, mortgage/rental agreement, etc.)
    • Completed enrollment forms (including the Free & Reduced Lunch Application)
    • Copy of court order if parent or other individual is denied access to student and/or records

 April 11, 5:00 or 6:30: Parent Information Meeting will be a parents-only meeting for you to learn about Young 5 and Kindergarten:  meet our principal, take a self-tour of the building, visit with Transportation, Food Service, and KIDS (our before and after care program), and hear about our curriculum. These meetings will take place in the gym at FECC.

 May 16th, 9:00-2:00: Vision and Hearing Screening is required for all incoming Kindergarten and Young 5 students. If your child needs a screening prior to attending school in the fall, we will be offering free screenings, by appointment, between 9:00am and 2:00pm at FECC.  Please schedule an appointment when you turn in your enrollment paperwork.

 Mid-August: Placement Letters will be sent to your home with your child’s classroom placement, teacher wish list, Infinite Campus login directions, etc…

 TBD**:  FECC Open House will be a drop-in time for families to tour the building and their classroom, meet their teacher, tour a school bus and use the playground. **This date is subject to change, but the finalized date will be included in the placement letter.

  *2017-18 Kindergarten Age Eligibility to be eligible to enroll, see below. 

Parent Waiver or Application Option
If the child will not be eligible for enrollment by turning 5 years-of-age on or before September 1, 2017, but will be five years old by December 1st, the child’s parent or legal guardian may notify the district in writing of their intent to enroll in school. If your child turns 5 between September 2-December 1, 2017, and you want to enroll them in Y5/K, please complete the Age Waiver form as part of your Y5/K Enrollment Packet.

  • when in receipt of a waiver, districts can make recommendations to the child’s parent or legal guardian, as to the child’s readiness for school, and whether or not the child should be enrolled early.
  • Regardless of a district’s recommendation, the parent or legal guardian retains the sole discretion to enroll their child.
